Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade arrived in the Libyan central resort town of Sirte 9. September to attend celebrations marking the 6th anniversary of the Declaration of Sirte, giving birth to the African Union (AU).
General Aboubakar Younes Jaber, member of the historic command of the libyan Revolution and the general coordinator of Libyan social and popular commands, Sayed Ghedhaf Eddam, met President Wade and delegation at the Sirte international airport. Former Zambian president Kenneth Kaunda, a respected African statesman, also arrived in Sirte, where the historic 9 September 1999 declaration was made on the founding of the African Union.
