The First International Conference in Libya on the initiative for Seas and Oceans

More than 87 world figures from political institutions, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, military personalities, experts and specialists in the field of environment from 26 countries, took part in the First International Conference on the Initiative for Seas and Oceans Environmental Security .

The conference deal with three critical manifestations of ocean security in the Mediterranean Region: environmental security, economic security, and defense/the fight against international crime. Round tables and panels shall take into account the national, regional and global manifestations and repercussions of the major security hazards to be addressed, as well as the concrete possibilities of cooperation available in the current panorama.

Thusday, 19 of July,2005, the announcement of this participation came in a press conference held by the Conference Preparation Committee in Tripoli where its chairman Ali al -Bussifi stressed the importance of holding this conference in Great Jamahiriya and the issues to be discussed concerning environmental security of seas and oceans of the world. He indicated that this conference is organized by the Advisory Committee on Protection of the Seas (ACOPS) under the auspices of Gaddafi International Foundation for Charity Associations (GIFCA).

Chairman of the Committee pointed out that issues of economic security of the Mediterranean Sea in particular and seas and oceans in the world, Oil and Gas Sector and fish wealth are among the salient topics to be studied by the Conference, in addition to the security aspects of the environment specially equipping and executing a monitoring system for disasters predictions, indicating that other economic and social aspects will be considered as well.
